INTRODUCTION FOR WELDING, CUTTING AND GRINDING HOT WORK SAFETY AWARENESS
This Welding, Cutting & Grinding: Hot Work Safety Awareness training course raises awareness of the risks presented by welding operations, including both gas and electric arc welding. It provides details of how to complete a risk assessment and follow the appropriate control measures.
Hot work refers to any work that requires using open flames, applying heat or friction, or may generate sparks or heat. Worker using blow torch to cut metal sheet. More specifically, it is defined by the British Standards Institution (BSI) in BS 9999 as “any procedure that might involve or have the potential to generate sufficient heat, sparks or flame to cause a fire. Hot work includes welding, flame cutting, soldering, brazing, grinding and the use of other equipment incorporating a flame, e.g. tar boilers, etc.”
(Definition taken from BS 9999: Code of practice for fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings.)
Welding and cutting operations are used in many manufacturing and engineering environments but they present many risks to health and safety. This course helps you to understand the risks that must be avoided and provides knowledge of how to carry out your welding activities safely.
This program will instruct employees on how to identify the common hazards associated with welding, cutting and grinding, and outlines the steps needed to avoid dangerous situations before they occur. Students will come to understand the importance of operating welding, cutting and grinding equipment safely and raise their level of awareness concerning safe hot-work practices.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This course will help XXX (M) Sdn Bhd employees to:
- Identify the hazards of hot work.
- Describe the authorizations, area preparations and fire prevention methods you must have in place prior to performing hot work that can protect you and others from hot work hazards.
- Recognize how using proper PPE and implementing safe equipment preparation practices and start and stop practices can protect you and others from hot work hazards.
WHO MUST ATTEND
This Welding, Cutting & Grinding: Hot Work Safety Awareness training course is suitable for anyone who uses welding and cutting operations in their work. The course is well-suited for managers, supervisors, and team leaders who are responsible for carrying out a risk assessment, but the level of information covered is appropriate for workers at all levels.
