INTRODUCTION FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN (ERP)
The Chemical Spill Response course is designed to provide you and/or your staff with sufficient knowledge about the theory of spill response to enable you to plan for and respond to incidents in your own organisation, such as a spillage in a laboratory or warehouse, or even a leak from a bulk tanker that has rolled over.
This one-day, modular course teaches chemical hazard awareness coupled with the theory of spill response. There is also the option of adding a practical exercise to test your ability to deal with an incident in your workplace.
The structure of the course means we are able to customize the content to include the chemicals found at your premises and to incorporate your organization’s emergency response procedure.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Successful completion of the program will enhance the skills of participants and enable them to :-
- Possess good understanding of the OSHA 1994 especially on the section 15 and 24
- Setup, organize and arrange an effective Emergency Response Team (ERT) members
- Understand the responsibilities of both employers and employees towards safety at workplace.
- Understand on the requirement and provision of emergency spill kits at the workplace
- Understand on the procedure developed and able to follow the procedure during emergency situation effectively
- Enhance the awareness and ability to identify and assess the presence of hazards., risks and take the necessary response to safeguard themselves.
COURSE METHODOLOGY
This training workshop is aimed to be practical, participative and interactive. Real life examples, case studies and “HANDS ON” tips will be given to participants during the training. There will also be small group activities to foster better understanding of concepts and real life applications.
A practical session will be conducted to enable participants to understand the process by the direct facilitation by the trainer.

COURSE CONTENT
- Introduction to OSH Act 1994 (Act 514)
- Hazard Identification– learn how to obtain hazard and risk information quickly and how to turn a safety data sheet (SDS) into an emergency document.
- Properties and behaviour– know how chemicals may behave in different circumstances when released from their containers.
- Chemical effects and first aid– the ways in which you can be exposed to substances, the effects they may have on you and some simple steps to take if you come into contact with them.
- The theory of response – learn how to plan a response instead of rushing in. A tool to guide you from start to finish with response options and incident site management arrangements, and debriefing before leaving the scene.
