Course Overview
Mobile Crane Safety Training is designed to provide participants with the essential knowledge and practical awareness required for the safe planning, setup, operation, inspection, and lifting of loads using mobile cranes. The programme focuses on preventing crane-related accidents such as overturning, dropped loads, collision, improper rigging, overloading, and contact with overhead power lines.
The training covers key safety requirements including mobile crane components and functions, crane stability, safe working load (SWL), load charts, lifting radius, ground conditions, pre-use inspection, lifting plans, rigging and slinging, signal communication, exclusion zones, weather conditions, and emergency procedures.
Participants will also learn about the responsibilities of crane operators, lifting supervisors, signalmen/banksmen, riggers and other personnel involved in lifting operations. The course emphasizes safe work practices and compliance with applicable Malaysian occupational safety and health requirements and relevant DOSH guidelines.
At the end of the training, participants should be better equipped to identify mobile crane hazards, assess lifting risks and apply appropriate control measures to ensure lifting operations are carried out safely and efficiently.
Course Objectives
- Understand the basic principles, functions and applications of mobile cranes in workplace lifting operations.
- Identify common mobile crane hazards and potential causes of lifting-related accidents.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of crane operators, lifting supervisors, riggers, signalmen/banksmen and other personnel involved in lifting operations.
- Conduct basic pre-use inspections of mobile cranes and identify defects or unsafe conditions requiring corrective action.
- Interpret crane load charts, including Safe Working Load (SWL), load radius, boom length, lifting capacity and operating limitations.
- Understand the importance of proper crane positioning, ground stability, outrigger deployment and safe working zones.
- Apply safe practices for rigging, slinging, load attachment and lifting operations.
- Use standard hand signals and effective communication between the crane operator and signalman/banksman.
- Recognise hazards associated with overhead power lines, nearby structures, personnel, vehicles and other obstructions.
- Understand the importance of lifting plans, exclusion zones and controlled access during crane operations.
- Apply appropriate control measures for adverse conditions such as strong winds, poor visibility, unstable ground and restricted working areas.
- Understand emergency procedures for incidents such as dropped loads, crane instability, equipment failure and contact with electrical lines.
- Promote safe work practices and compliance with applicable Malaysian occupational safety and health requirements and relevant DOSH requirements.
- Demonstrate improved awareness and competency in preventing accidents and ensuring safe mobile crane lifting operations.
