Day 1: Foundations of Business Agility

Module 1: The Agile Imperative 

  • Introduction to Business Agility: The shift from the age of oil and mass production to the digital age. The need for collaboration and conversation in modern work environments.
  • The Imperative of Agility: The increasing dominance of IT firms and fundamental changes in the world of work. The importance of fast value flow.
  • The “Why” and “How” of Business Agility: GE’s removal from the Dow Jones as a symbol of the need for agility. Introduction to the Better Value Sooner Safer Happier (BVSSH) framework.
  • Key Outcomes: Understanding why agility is crucial for competitive advantage and foundational principles of BVSSH.

 

Module 2: Value Stream Mapping and Impediment Removal 

  • Value Stream Mapping Workshop: Mapping current value streams to identify bottlenecks.
  • Impediment Removal Simulation: Simulating the impact of removing impediments to flow. Impediments are the path.
  • Prioritisation Game: Prioritising product investments based on “will it be used” and “how quickly”.

 

Day 2: Implementing and Leading with Agility

Module 3: Patterns, Anti-Patterns and Leadership 

  • Patterns and Anti-Patterns for Business Agility: Lessons learned and best practices, emphasising no one-size-fits-all.
  • Focus on Outcomes: Importance of focusing on outcomes (Better, Value, Sooner, Safer, Happier). The anti-pattern of top-down mandated agile transformation.
  • Achieve Big Through Small: Starting small and scaling incrementally. Avoiding “thinking big, starting big, learning slow”.
  • Invite Over Inflict: Inviting change and starting with innovators. Avoiding mandating change.
  • Leadership Behaviour: How leadership behaviour impacts agile initiatives. The need for psychological safety.
  • Key Outcomes: Learning key patterns and anti-patterns and understanding the role of leadership in agile transformations.

 

Module 4: Agile in Action and Roadmap Design 

  • Agile Simulation Game: Applying agile principles in a project simulation.
  • Leadership Challenge: Addressing leadership challenges in creating psychological safety. Practicing servant leadership and fostering a blame-free culture.
  • Designing Your Agile Roadmap: Creating a roadmap for implementing agility.
  • Retrospective and Action Planning: Capturing key learnings and creating actionable plans.
