INTRODUCTION FOR 7 NEW QC TOOLS
Organized problem-solving efforts utilize a variety of quality tools for problem analysis. They are scientific management tools, which are basic and easy to understand. They form the fundamental & critical foundation for all problem solving and quality control activities for both qualitative and quantitative data.
A picture is worth a thousand words. The 7 QC Tools are time-tested, excellent problem-solving techniques, with a fixed set of graphical techniques identified as being effective for troubleshooting issues related to quality. The renowned Quality Guru, Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa once said, “More than 95% of the problems in a company can be solved by the 7QC Tools.”
The traditional 7 QC Tools are used in QC activities to uncover the problem, arrange the data, analyze the cause, carry out the countermeasures for improvement, and to ensure the continuous improvement changes. Most of them will be using numerical data in their applications. However, the new techniques discovered for managers and their staffs to use at the planning stage to think and set out the important direction to carry out improvement activities. These techniques involve qualitative data, which will be transformed to diagrams and drawings. The techniques are useful in arranging initial thoughts and planning into word forms.
The discipline of Total Quality Control uses a number of quantitative methods and tools to identify problems and suggest avenues for continual improvement in fields such as manufacturing and services. Over many years, total quality practitioners gradually realized that a large number of quality planning related problems could be solved with seven new tools.
